Cheryl Reeves enriches CitySongs with 23 years of experience in music education, organization, youth choral directing, and professional performance. She has a B.A. degree in vocal music education from Bethel College and an M.A. in choral music education from the University of St. Thomas, where her work focused on increasing choral participation among middle-school students, particularly boys.
Cheryl has taught vocal and classroom music at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, mounting musical theater productions in schools with the involvement of professional musicians and other artists in the community. She has directed children's and adult choirs at St. Paul's Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she also arranges music for all performing groups and provides piano accompaniment.
For 12 years Cheryl performed with the Grammy Award-winning ensemble Sounds of Blackness, whose mission is to educate communities about and to perform all forms of historically African American music styles. She currently performs in various local opera company choruses, and she scores and arranges songs for local artists and performing groups and for music publication. She comes to CitySongs to live out her deep desire for excellence, her belief in the tremendous healing power of the arts, and her commitment to bringing people to wholeness through artistic expression.
